That's pretty interesting, though I'm surprised by how long it's been in the game if that's the reason. To answer the OP, no I do not believe the Scrake to be a reference to Resident Evil. It takes a bit of time to set up, but when it works I find it very satisfying. There's not enough data there to piece together anything. If the demo misses, there is a high chance he is going to be cut in half. The 'Scrake' in that folder is left over bits and pieces of the original redesign of the old Scrake. I believe that Demo did not have the same skill set it does today, so it wasn't quite as effective as it is now. Tripwire remedied this with the RPG dud shot, a high risk, high reward method that gave demo a better option of dealing with this high tier threat. Demolitionist was the answer to flesh pounds at that point but couldn't help with scrakes due to the explosive resistances they had.

Originally, when demolitionist was first implemented, there wasn't a reliable way to quickly and efficiently take out Scrakes.
